Ohio County Board of Education President Speaks Out on Contract Controversy
For the first time, Ohio County Board of Education President Jim Jorden is speaking out about what happened last week during a special meeting that turned into a storm of controversy.
Last week, Jorden, outgoing president, suggested the board review Ohio County Superintendent Diana Vargo's contract, which raised some eyebrows among some other board members. Jorden, who spoke exclusively to 7 News on Friday, said he only suggested a review of Vargo's contract for a possible two-year extension. Jorden said nothing was on the agenda for the next board meeting, because it just came out Friday and nothing was on it regarding the superintendent's contract.
Under state code, you can not extend a superintendent's contract with more than one year remaining on their current one. For the past week, the issue had heated up, with one board member saying it had the appearance of impropriety.
