Wheeling Park Students Recognized for Drug Free Clubs of America Contest

Two Wheeling Park High School students were recognized Friday as the winners of the annual Drug Free Clubs of America essay contest.

Senior Kerri Smith and was awarded a $500 dollar college scholarship and a special award from the Department of Justice.

"Drug Free Clubs of America helps me a lot throughout school so it is very near and dear to my heart," Smith said.

Shayla McFarland was runner-up.

The contest asked participants to discuss the negative impact marijuana can have on young people. United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld presented the awards.

"She really is passionate about this issue and the more people like that we can get thinking along those lines as far as living a drug free life, the better we all are," Ihlenfeld said.

Drug Free Clubs of America has chapters throughout the Northern Panhandle which help students remain drug-free.
