Cameron Pool Reopens After Being Closed for Eight Years

Posted: Updated:
CAMERON - The Cameron pool is open again just in time for Memorial Day, after being closed for eight years.

Locals gathered at the pool on Sunday afternoon to celebrate its 75th birthday. It was built in 1939, and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, because of its structural design. The pool needed serious repairing, and Cameron Mayor Julie Beresford took on the job. With help from several community members, the pool is finally open for use. Mayor Beresford was all smiles on Sunday and was thrilled to open the pool to the public. "I'm feeling pretty excited. It's just great to be a part of it and to get to be here to experience it all because its been fun. It's been a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears, but we've arrived. We're going to have a great Memorial Day," said Mayor Beresford.

An honorary plaque was placed outside the pool to remind people of its historical significance.

The Cameron pool is in the shape of a semi-circle, and is one of few pools with this shape left in the world.
