Rising Star Will Make Major Debut
PINEHURST, N.C., June 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Qualifying has wrapped. Scorecards have been handed out. And it is now official: rising European star Max Kieffer is set to make his Major debut at the 2014 US Open.
The young German, who gained fame last year for being part of the longest playoff in European Tour history (nine extra holes at the 2013 Open de Espana), has been shooting up the ranks ever since leaving the University of Florida to turn pro in 2010.
"The sport has such an amazing tradition in the US," said an ecstatic Kieffer. "I've played junior golf here, and used to work on my short game in between classes at UF. My dream has always been to play in a Major, and now for my first to be the US Open is just unbelievable."
Kieffer is the brand ambassador for Air Partner, a global jet charter firm. "We know a thing or two about travel, and in Max we saw a sure investment in a player who will be doing a lot of traveling to tournaments for years to come," said Philip Mathews, President of Air Partner North America.
Air Partner, the only jet charter firm to hold a Royal Warrant from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, is fully committed to supporting the emerging talent. "The caliber of golf in Europe is just incredible right now," said Mathews. "The game is growing in popularity and three of the last four US Opens have been won by Europeans. But we really believe that Max is a special talent. We are very excited to watch him shine at Pinehurst."
"It has been an amazing partnership," said Kieffer. "The support I've received from Air Partner has given me opportunities to play at more courses across the world. And every round teaches you something, from the first shot to the last. All this experience has helped me bring my game to higher levels."
The jet charter firm is based in the United Kingdom, but has 20 offices around the world, including German headquarters in Bergisch Gladbach, Kieffer's hometown. "Air Partner has seen me to my greatest success to date," said Kieffer. "And their connection to my hometown is very important to me. I'm proud to wear the Air Partner logo."
