West Virginia native and long-time Preston County book publisher Cathy Teets has a few new awards to add to her company’s resume after the conclusion of this year’s Next Generation Indie Book Awards ceremony in New York City.

Teets, president of Headline Books, was named the recipient of one new award during the event, held in conjunction with the New York Book Expo, at the end of May.

The Outstanding Publisher of the Year award was introduced this year to honor an independent publisher who promotes and celebrates indie authors and their books, according to a news release from Headline Books.

Teets said the award was a big surprise and a huge honor, coming from the largest not-for-profit book awards organization — and what she described as the book world’s equivalent to independent films’ Sundance Festival.

The award isn’t a first for Teets and Headline Books. The company also took home honors for its authors Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. and Rick Robinson, who won the Best Inspirational Book prize for “America’s Got Talent Winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star.”

Murphy’s memoir was released in November, Teets said.
