Dick Flanagan's Ohio Supreme Court Case Against Sheriff Lucas Dismissed

Posted: Updated:
The Supreme Court of Ohio has dismissed Dick Flanagan's lawsuit against Belmont County Sheriff David M. Lucas.
The court determined that Flanagan had "no reasonable grounds to assert entitlement to the office."

Sheriff Lucas was content with the decision and issued a statement.

"Obviously, I am very pleased with the Supreme Court's decision today. More important, with this matter now behind us, I can move forward to do the job I was elected to do," Lucas said.

The allegations, made in a lawsuit filed by Flanagan in February, claim that Lucas established a home in Florida and during this time period did not pay Ohio income tax.

Flanagan alleged that this means Lucas was not a resident of Ohio, and therefore, was not qualified under Ohio law to run or hold the office of Sheriff.
