Charles Severance has been named as the primary suspect in three murders in Alexandria, Virginia.

According to ABC7 News/News Channel 8, the Alexandria Police Department announced that they continue to actively investigate the homicide cases involving Ruthanne Lodato, Ron Kirby and Nancy Dunning.

They said no one has been arrested, but the department has narrowed the scope of the investigations to Severance as the number one suspect.

Police call the cases complex and time consuming. Detectives have conducted an extensive and thorough investigation, which they describe as ongoing. Police said they are actively examining the facts and evidence related to the cases.

Severance was extradited back to Virginia in early May. He was being held in Wheeling on a weapons violation. The West Virginia Supreme Court had denied a stay of extradition for Severance who was wanted for questioning regarding those murders.

He was arrested at the Ohio County Public Library on March 13.
