Phillips Throws 3 TD Passes, but North Falls to South

Posted: Updated:
Former Wheeling Park High School quarterback, Gannon University freshman-to-be Zach Phillips, threw three touchdown passes and was named the North squad MVP, but the South defeated the North 42-26 in the annual all-star classic in Charleston.

It was back-and-forth early, as the North struck first on a Phillips scoring strike to Bridgeport's Anthony Bonamico. With the game tied at 7-7, Phillips connected with Chase Banker of North Marion to give the North a 14-7 lead.  The North held a slim 14-13 halftime lead, but the South blew it wide open in the second half on the way to a 20-point win.

Wheeling Park's Geremy Paige, also a Gannon recruit and Huff Award winner, made 10 tackles from his linebacker spot. Wheeling Park receiver Eric Banks pulled in six passes. Other OVAC senior who participated were Wheeling Park lineman Matt Hackathorn, John Marshall running back Trevor Hardesty, and Weir High lineman Dan Mohorowski.

The South has won eight straight in the series.
