A 50-year-old Mercer County man faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said Charles Edward Lawrence of Princeton, West Virginia was caught with a USB flash drive containing images of prepubescent minors having sex or performing sex acts. The drive was found Oct. 10 when authorities executed a search warrant at Lawrence's home after an undercover operation.

Lawrence, who appeared before Senior United States District Court Judge David A. Faber, is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 27 in Bluefield.

The West Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston is handling the prosecution.
