CHARLESTON, WV -

Bowles Rice attorney Shantel Boone Walker has been named to Lawyers of Color Inc.’s Hot List 2014, which recognizes achievements by early- to mid-career minority attorneys working as in-house counsel, government attorneys and law firm associates and partners.

Walker, an associate in the firm’s Charleston office, has experience representing employers in employment, workers’ compensation and civil litigation matters. Her practice also includes oil and gas law.

As a member of the Army Reserves’ Judge Advocate General Corps, she frequently is called upon to assist employers in understanding issues related to the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.

She completed Leadership Kanawha Valley in 2012. Prior to joining Bowles Rice, she was named Lawyer of the Year by Legal Aid of North Carolina — Gastonia in 2009 and in 2008 won the Distinguished Service Award from Legal Aid of North Carolina. She earned her law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law, where she was a member of the 2006-2007 championship National Trial Team. She also was a recipient of the American Academy of Trial Lawyers Medal for Excellence in Advocacy. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in political science from Hampton University. Lawyers of Color Inc., a media and research company, will feature Walker and the other honorees in the July issue of Lawyers of Color magazine. Bowles Rice has more than 140 attorneys in offices in West Virginia (in Charleston, Martinsburg, Morgantown, Moundsville and Parkersburg), in Southpointe, Pennsylvania, Lexington, Kentucky, and Winchester, Virginia.
