Local Law Firms Join Forces in Effort to Protect Residents' Mineral Rights

Posted: Updated:
WHEELING - Two local law firms have joined forces with residents in Ohio and Marshall County to make sure they get their fair share for mineral rights when they seal the deal.

They're called the Marshall and Ohio County Land Group and they started recruiting residents about two months ago, and since then, have accumulated more than 12,000 acres of land. Right now, the land group is negotiating with every major oil and gas company in their area and even some future companies who plan on operating in the community.

Jonathan Turak, an attorney with the group, said, "The most important thing is that our last land group meeting will be on July 10 at the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department. It starts at 6 p.m., and the cut-off for joining the land group will be July 18. After that, we're going to try and finalize the terms with the winning bidder for the land group."

Turak also mentioned there will be successive land groups in the near future after they've finalized and followed through with this group.
