“Shovelful of Sunshine” author Stacie Hutton will be making an appearance to sign copies of her book at the Miner Appreciation Celebration at Cabela’s in Wheeling July 4 and 5.

Hutton was inspired to write “Shovelful of Sunshine,” an award-winning children’s picture book that illustrates a story of hope and inspiration by showing how a young girl copes with her father’s job as a coal miner, by reading letters from coal miners to their families.

The book was illustrated by Cheryl Harness and published by Headline Kids, an imprint of Headline Books in Terra Alta.

“America’s Got Talent” winner, recording artist and coal miner’s son Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. wrote the foreword and says, “Shovelful of Sunshine will give you a glimpse into the lives of these wonderful people that I’m so thankful to call my friends.”

“Shovelful of Sunshine” was named a Gold Honoree by the Mom’s Choice Awards as Best Children’s Motivational/Inspirational Book. Among other awards, it also won Gold in the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards for books about Mind-Body-Spirit/Self-Esteem.

The two-day Miner Appreciation is part of Cabela’s Hometown Heroes program, which is designed to raise money for Boatsy’s Boxes, an organization that sends gift baskets to our military stationed overseas. For the Fourth of July weekend, the event extends employee discounts and special recognition to all Friends of Coal.

Friends of Coal will have a tent on site throughout the event to provide patrons an opportunity to join the organization and to learn more about the coal industry. Hutton will begin signing books about 10 a.m. both days and stay until the event closes.
