Man Who Allegedly Stole Steubenville Water Department Vehicle for Use in Burglaries Appears in Court

The man who allegedly stole a water department vehicle to use in six burglaries was indicted by the Jefferson County Grand Jury on Thursday.

Michael Hawthorne is charged with failure to comply with the order of a police officer and receiving stolen property. Back in April, Hawthorne allegedly stole a Steubenville water department van that he ended up crashing and running away from on Highland Avenue.

The burglaries began when Hawthorne allegedly stole a Steubenville City Water Department van on University Boulevard and smashed into the front door of Woods Grocery in Hopedale. According to Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla, seven handguns were also stolen from the Sportsman's Trading Post in Wintersville.
