The Mountain Transit Authority (MTA) has inaugurated a new route that’s bringing bus service to western Greenbrier County for the first time. The new service began July 1.

The new bus route meshes with two MTA routes that already served Lewisburg and surrounding areas, except for the western part of the county. New locations seeing bus service for the first time include Rainelle, Quinwood, Leslie, Charmco, Rupert and Sam Black Church.

Rainelle Mayor Andrea Pendleton hailed the new service, noting that it will provide a way for western Greenbrier residents who don’t have access to private transportation to get to medical appointments and adult education classes.

“We hope that people use the bus to keep the service effective and to keep the MTA with us,” Pendleton said.

MTA, headquartered in Summersville, has been serving Nicholas, Webster, Fayette and Greenbrier counties for more than 30 years. Financial support for the new bus route has been provided by the Greenbrier County Commission.
