A new program will make the State Fair of West Virginia experience even better for visitors and at the same time expand the educational programming and scholarships the State Fair of West Virginia offers.

A visitor can partake in the “Fair Fan” program by making a $150 tax-deductible donation, of which net proceeds go directly to the State Fair Endowment to support youth scholarships and youth educational programming.

In exchange for the donation, fair fans are able to take advantage of VIP parking, five one-day gate admissions, a special Fair Fan pin, a food coupon book, 10 percent off official State Fair merchandise, invitation to the opening night sponsor and donor reception and two box seats in Section 1 or Section 7 for the Twilight Harness Racing and Shows.

“This program has been a long-time coming, and our Development and Endowment Committee is very excited to launch the Fair Fan program during our 90th anniversary celebration,” said State Fair CEO Marlene Pierson-Jolliffe. “It’s a great way to enjoy all the fair has to offer and at the same time know that your donation is supporting important youth development initiatives.”

Two existing programs to support scholarships and education initiatives will continue: fresh cookies sold by volunteers every day at the fair Grandstand Marketplace. The Fun First program allows the donation of a ride wristband to underprivileged children.

The 2014 State Fair, themed “Blue Ribbon Traditions,” is scheduled Aug. 8-16. Contact 304-645-1090 for details about the fair and its programs.
