Ohio Hangs On to Win OVAC All-Star Football Game

Posted: Updated:

The Ohio All-Stars hung on for a wild, 27-26 victory over West Virginia in the 69th Rudy Mumley OVAC All-Star  Football Classic at Wheeling Island Stadium on Sunday night.

Wheeling Park's Carly Greer was named Queen of Queens at halftime, becoming the third consecutive contestant from Wheeling Park to win the award.

Trailing 27-7, Madonna's Will Bowser scooped up a fumble and raced 79 yards for a touchdown to cut the Ohio lead to 27-14 at the half.

Steubenville Catholic quarterback Brenton Colabella, a West Liberty University recruit, passed for over 200 yards and threw three touchdowns in the first half. He connected with Rich Springer (Edison) and Bellaire receivers Kenny Hess and Brendon Ross on scoring plays, but the Ohio offense was blanked in the second half.

A pair of Trevor Hardesty (John Marshall) touchdowns, one in each quarter of the second half, pulled West Virginia within one point, but Wheeling Park's Liam Casey missed a pair of extra points. The second extra point was a 33-yard effort, after a personal foul.

Ohio avenges last year's 28-19 loss, but West Virginia has won three of the last five meetings. Ohio leads the all-time series 33-25.
