The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing is taking part in a campaign to help inform parents, educators and students about opportunities in manufacturing.

As the first West Virginian institution to participate in the Manufacturing Institute’s “Dream It. Do It.” initiative, RCBI will “focus on activities that promote rewarding and exciting careers in industry through collaborations with its many partners in business, education and government,” according to a news release.

More than 48,000 West Virginians are employed in the manufacturing sector, according to the news release, and some of the career skills programs RCBI offers include: machinist technology, welding technology and robotics technology, as well as customized training directly to industry. The institute also offers an introduction to manufacturing to middle and high school students through a 3D Printing Camps.

“We are excited that our continuing association with NAM includes partnering on the ‘Dream It. Do It’ initiative,” Charlotte Weber, RCBI’s Director and CEO, said in a news release. “We see firsthand the sparkle in the eyes of young students who use the latest technology, especially 3D Printing, and we recognize the importance of engaging young minds.

"Now through ‘Dream It. Do It,’ we’ll extend our efforts to make them aware of exciting opportunities in New Manufacturing — including a rewarding future, not just for their own personal careers but also for artists, designers, inventors and consumers.”
