Governor Malloy Recognized Award Recipients at a Ceremony in Seaside Park, On the Waterfront Project Site of 60 Main

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 28, 2014

In a ceremony held yesterday in Seaside Park on Bridgeport Harbor, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that the states Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) has awarded a total of $27 million in grants and loans for 20 brownfield remediation and redevelopment projects located throughout the state. Among those projects singled out was 60 Main Street, LLC, a 12-acre mixed-use development that borders Long Island Sound, and for which Perkins Eastman is serving as Architect. The project was awarded a loan in the amount of $2 million to develop and rejuvenate the prime waterfront parcel.

A significant portion of these funds will be devoted to climate resilient building initiatives, to be implemented throughout this initial phase of the Bridgeport development, including raising residential and commercial spaces eight feet above the flood plain. Phase 1 of 60 Main Street, which is currently under construction, will include approximately 250 new residential units and 20,000 sf of new retail space. The overall development proposes 1,200 residential units in the Seaside Park/University of Bridgeport neighborhood.

Design Principal Peter Cavaluzzi was in attendance at Wednesdays ceremony. In his remarks to the crowd gathered he said, The 60 Main Street project, located right here on this beautiful part of [Long Island] Sound, incorporates state-of-the-art resiliency and regeneration strategies that will make this a key part of Bridgeports revival as a destination city. He continued, This development will include a contemporary mix of loft materials to build on the waterfronts industrial heritage. Markets and cafes will be situated along the newly landscaped terraces, plus a new walkway that hugs the Sound, making Seaside Park a major attraction that reconnects the city with its waterfront.

All projects were rated and ranked with the utmost scrutiny by an inter-agency committee based on criteria which evaluated each applicants financial needs, the projects overall feasibility, and the projects consistency with responsible growth and livability initiatives. 60 Main Street will be an iconic urban development that expands upon existing residential and commercial space. Perkins Eastmans design scheme envisions a dynamic and varied bay front property that will attract new residents, businesses, and year-round activity; all things that have been largely absent from much of Bridgeports coastline for some time. The design team is led by Principals Peter Cavaluzzi FAIA, Stuart Lachs AIA, LEED AP, and Associate Principal Hilary Bertsch AIA.
