Ohio River reaching close to flood stage


Flood Warning canceled for Marshall county (Moundsville). River expected to crest at 36.3 feet. Flood stage is 37 feet.

Wheeling/Wellsburg expected to crest around 33.5 feet. Flood stage is 36 feet.


After a winter storm moved through the region Friday night, it brought along some snow and flooding.

The Ohio River is forecasted to continue rising until Sunday afternoon even though the storm has passed.

Along the riverfront in Moundsville is under a flood warning until Sunday evening or until the warning is canceled. The observation taken at 10:23 AM on Saturday showed the river is at 33.6 feet. Flood stage is at 37 feet. Minor flooding is expected as the river is forecasted to crest at 37.6 feet Sunday afternoon.

Wheeling and Wellsburg are also going to continue seeing the water rise but not into the flood stage. Flood stage is at 36 feet. Both are forecasted to crest between 34.4 to 34.7 feet, which is almost a foot and a half under flood stage.

Avoid any areas that appear flooded, and do not drive through them. The water may be deeper than it appears.
