11 workers are being treated for injuries at four local hospitals after industrial accident


UPDATE: Wednesday, December 16, 2:33 p.m.

All of the 11 workers admitted to four area hospitals have been treated and released. 

The workers were injured Tuesday in an incident at the facility’s power plant that involved a coal-fired boiler. The boiler has been isolated and shut down. 

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.


UPDATE: 2:30 p.m.

Of the three workers admitted to Wetzel County Hospital, one has been treated and released. The other two are considered to be in good condition.


UPDATE: 10:50 a.m.

11 workers are being treated for injuries at four local hospitals, officials say. The incident occurred in the facility’s power plant and involved a coal-fired boiler. 

The boiler has been isolated and shut down.

According to the Axiall Corporation the accident occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at its Natrium facility in Marshall County.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

9:23 a.m.

Three people were taken to Wetzel County Hospital and three others have been taken to other area hospitals after an accident at the Axiall plant, according to Marshall County EMA director Tom Hart.

Hart says the contractors were injured due to a steam release problem.

We have reached out to Axiall for further details but they have yet to return our calls.
