5K Santa Fun Run raises money for local non-profit

Runners, walkers, families and special needs children are braving the cold to raise money for a local non-profit.

The 5K Santa Fun Run was held Saturday morning and costumes, pets, and ugly sweaters were all encouraged!

The event raised money for an all-inclusive playground to be located near the Miracle League baseball field in Wheeling.

“We will be receiving for our playground from Pirate Charities $75,000. Now we have some conditions attached to that $75,000. It’s a matching grant and we have to raise over $100,000 before we get the $75,000,” said Lorraine McCardle, who is the president of the Miracle League of the Ohio Valley.

Wheeling’s Vice Mayor Chad Thalman said, “It’s great that we have a group of people that are so dedicated here in Wheeling that they work to raise the funds for the Miracle League playground. All the money that’s raised today is going to such a good cause. The City’s happy to play a part in this and help make that playground become a reality.”

WTRF was a proud to be one of the many supporters of Saturday’s event.
