7News Talks Pirate Playoffs With Former MLB Prospect & Wheeling Native JJ Newman

Nate –  “We’re talking Buctober with someone many people in the Ohio Valley may recognize, Wheeling’s JJ Newman.  JJ, of course you played for Wheeling Park, Youngstown State and then the New York Mets organization, thanks a lot for being here tonight. First JJ, we’re heading into October, injuries a big thing, who needs to step up for the Pirates?”

JJ – “Well losing Jung Ho has been a huge blow to the Pirates. He was not only a solid infielder, but he was also one heck of a hitter! This guy hit 15 homerruns in just his first season and was a solid bat in that lineup.

NATE – “Lets talk about the pitching staff, especially if it comes down to the one game playoff. Who gets the ball?

JJ – “Nate, ya gotta go with your workhorse and give Cole the ball. He’s been your ace all year despite having a bit of a rough patch in recent weeks. Plus, if Cole gets you the win you have *last year’s playoff starter going in Franky Liriano.”

Nate – “So who do you like to win this postseason?”

JJ – “Well this one’s a bit tough for me, especially being a Met…but they don’t call it Buctober for nothing. I gotta go with my heart on this one and take the Pirates. I really think if they get hot this week they could so some damage.”
