It wasn’t an easy or quick ride home after many drivers on Interstate’s 70 and 470 found themselves in gridlock.
In a matter of 15 minutes, officers from the Wheeling Police Department found themselves dealing with three different accidents.
On 470 westbound near Bethlehem a dump truck was engulfed by flames.
While crews from the Wheeling Fire Department worked to extinguish the flames, another accident happened less than one mile behind when a car was struck by a semi.
Congestion on I-70 finally began to clear just after 8 p.m. Thursday.
At the time of this report transportation officials were still working to remove the dump truck on I-470.
Officials with the Transportation Department recommend using an alternate route to avoid delays.
