American Energy Corporation Idles Century Mine in Belmont County, OH

American Energy Corporation has announced that it will temporarily idle its underground mining operations at it Century Mine, in Belmont County, effective immediately.  

In a press release, the company sites the new EPA regulations and the increased utilization of  natural gas to generate electricity as reasons for the idling.

Approximately 425 hourly employees will be temporarily impacted, and the idling is currently expected to last for approximately two weeks.

The release states that American Energy’s Century Mine is one of the most productive underground coal mines in the United States, and the largest and most productive coal mine in the State of Ohio, directly employing over 650 workers.

American Energy will continue to sell and ship coal during this period, and service to its customers will not be interrupted.

American Energy is a subsidiary of Murray Energy Corporation.
