Annual Easter Seals Telethon Was A Huge Success

The 41st annual Easter Seals Telethon is a wrap.

This year the telethon was much shorter than previous years only being a total of 6 hours.

However, in just that amount of time we are happy to announce that this years telethon raised more than last years totaling in at $245,210.

Easter Seals has been providing services to families with children with disabilities for 90 years.

They help challenge and set goals so that these children can be as independent as possible.

The Dimmick family, just one of many, came to East Seals about 2 years ago with their 5 year old son Kellan.

He was born with his right foot turned completely sideways, He was having difficulty walking up steps without help.

That’s when they decided to come to Easter Seals, and in just a few years they are already seeing improvement.

“We have seen a complete 360,” Annie Dimmick says. “This is a child the could not walk up the stairs without help and now he can run up steps and run down steps. He’s running faster. He’s able to keep up with children his own age. He’s able to play soccer. Those are things we thought Kellan wouldn’t be able to do and now he’s doing them.”

They aren’t the only family noticing quick improvements. The Helt family has seen tremendous progress with their 3 year old daughter Gabriela who wasn’t speaking at all.

“Now she is saying words and recently she said three word sentences which is remarkable and her understanding is 10 times better,” Melinda Helt says.

But without the help from you in the community these families wouldn’t be able to receive this help and that’s why each donation made during the telethon is so important.

“We simply would not be able to have Kellan receiving these services,” Dimmick says. “Easter Seals has been wonderful. They’ve accepted us and said come you can receive the services regardless of your ability to pay. That’s amazing and that’s why donations are needed, so many people need this help.”

If you missed your chance to donate during the telethon you can still help out by going to their website at
