American Red Cross and Trinity Health System held their annual Jefferson County Media Day Blood Drive on Wednesday.

Studies show that every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.

And officials said there’s a big need for blood right here in the Ohio Valley.

People stopped by St. Florian Hall in WIntersville to donate, but also to volunteer and help spread awareness.

At Wednesday’s blood drive, donors were offered free pizza, donuts, and t-shirts thanks to Trinity Health System.

But even with the many goodies, officials said donating blood is more than just a good deed, it’s a necessity.

“This is a life saving product. Regardless of how it’s done, regardless of who’s doing it, who’s involved, one pint of blood can save three lives and there’s no substitute for blood,” said Phyllis Riccadonna with the American Red Cross.

Red Cross officials said that the need for blood never goes away because of accidents, emergency surgeries and more.
