Teachers and staff at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School got a hands-on lesson on school safety thanks to trainers from the ‘ALICE’ Training Institute on Wednesday.

ALICE stands for ‘Alert Lockdown Inform Counter and Evacuate,’ and it is utilized in schools, businesses and other public buildings nationwide.

The method involves alerting authorities and people in harm’s way of the danger in a quick and concise manner, locking down rooms and sheltering in place, giving real-time updates on the situation, countering an attacker who may enter a room and evacuating the building.
