Steubenville Police have made an arrest in connection to the recent shots fired incidents in the city.

Officers arrested Robert Simmons, Jr. who was arraigned in Steubenville Court on Wednesday afternoon.

He is charged with failure to comply (fleeing from police) and receiving stolen property (the car he was allegedly driving).

The charges he is facing stem from the December 27 shots fired incident at the Speedway, police believe he was driving the getaway car.

According to Simmons attorney, he turned himself in. His attorney claims he has nothing to do with the shootings, just a traffic incident.

According to Prosecutor Steve Lamatrice, Simmons was driving the vehicle when the ‘shootout’ happened.

Lamatrice asked for a $75,000 bond, but Judge Mascio said he believed Simmons is a flight risk, and a risk to the city. He set his bond at $100,000.

The preliminary hearing for Simmons has been set for January 4.

Police are still looking for Justyn Hendricks, who is wanted in connection to the shootings. He has active charges of felonious assault and weapons under disability.

Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said their office is asking anyone with information about any of the shots fired incidents to come forward.

“Because you never know when what you see might fit in perfectly with what somebody else has seen, and it leads up to the point where we have enough information to make an arrest. So I think they are getting close. I think we understand what is going on at this point, and now, we’re just trying to see if we can take care of it,” Hanlin said.

Police believe all four of the recent shots fired incidents are related.
