The paint has just finished drying on parking meters in an area of Wheeling known for it’s culture and eclectic shops.
A group of artists submitted their ideas to the Wheeling Arts and Cultural Commission to give the meters a makeover and take them from ordinary to extraordinary, as part of the Centre Market Meter Mural Project.
Artists submitted their concepts throughout September and were notified at the end of the month, if their ideas were accepted. This weekend, artists painted their designs and finished with the project yesterday.
“Oh, I love it. It’s an up and coming artsy place, now and it was just a wonderful project and I would like to see all of them be painted, it was awesome,” said Wheeling resident, Dina Carney.
The meters are set to be judged and the artist behind the judges favorite designs will win a cash prizes. The Best in show will win $250 and Awards of Merit will be given in the amount of $100 to four other artists.
