Across the nation tensions are high between police and citizens but here in Wheeling, police say they feel supported.

Officials with the Wheeling Police Department say it’s very refreshing to see all of the local support.

Just a few days ago, a mom brought her two children who were just 2 or 3 years old into the department.

The kids gave officers some homemade food and a handmade card.

A local Subway brought sandwiches, chips, and drinks for officers which was a big help for officers who don’t find the time to eat during their shift.

“There’s definitely a sense of appreciation for the officers and definitely a sense of appreciation also out in the community as well. Seeing all the cards we’ve received, we had flowers delivered to us, baked good, all sorts of things,” said Philip Stahl, Public Information Officer with the Wheeling Police Department.

We’ll continue to keep you updated on ways you can support our local police departments.
