Authorities Warning Ohio Valley Businesses of Gas Bill Scam

Belmont County authorities are warning local businesses of telephone scam targeting their gas usage.

According to police, two businesses were contacted by a caller claiming to be from Columbia Gas. The caller then informed the businesses that they owed $498.72 from their last bill and instructed business owners to purchase a money pack card at CVS. Once the money card has been purchased, the owner was then told to call 1-888-383-3443.

Authorities say this is a scam, and that if you do receive a call to inform police immediately.

Columbia Gas has been notified. Their emergency number is 1-800-344-4077.
