Band of the Week: John Marshall

This week, the John Marshall Monarchs are the WTRF, CA House Band of the Week.

Tracy Filben has been the band director at John Marshall for the past eleven years. She says it’s a family atmosphere that makes this group of students a pleasure to work with. There are about forty members in this years band, and they put on a dazzling half-time show each and every week.

Putting together a great show takes lots of hard work but the kids says it’s well worth it. “It’s very hard, it’s stressful. It hurts your back. But at the end of the day, once it does come down to half-time and you get it all together, nothing beats that,” said band member Michelle Rodak.

Band member Kelsey Gump continued, “When you come off the field after a good half-time show, it’s the greatest feeling ever. Everybody is in a good mood. Miss Filben is in a good mood.”

They say there is nothing like playing in front of a large crowd on a Friday night. I feel like it’s kind of a rush your out there, the adrenaline is pumping. You can’t really see anybody the lights are in your eyes. You don’t know where anybody is cause your looking at the field commander but it’s awesome. I love it,” said Joseph Lucey, band member.

All band members agree that playing in the band is an experience they will never forget.

They will be in action on their home field this Friday when the Monarchs take on Bellefonte, Pa.
