A large water line break Saturday night has washed away a street and flooded homes in Bellaire. The break happened in 3700 block of Harrison Street. Water flowed downhill through streets to Noble Street. A man on Monroe Street had to be rescued from his flooded basement by fire and EMS crews. According to Bellaire Fire Chief Richard Smith, around a dozen people evacuated from their homes, and the entire village is without water.
“Right now the streets are impassible. I mean the water has pretty much washed Harrison Street completely away and the pipe the broke is laying in the middle of the street up there,” said Smith.
Chief Smith adds that it is possible that one of the homes in the line of the water’s foundation might be in danger of washing away. They ask people stay clear of the area.
“Don’t drive through the water. Stay away. Don’t come looking. Stay where you’re supposed to be. Don’t cross barricades, and let us do our job,” Smith said.
Officials say they will be turning all water off to the city and are unsure as of now when they will be able to turn it back on. We will work to keep you updated.
