A group of students at Belmont College have been giving back to the community this week, helping to restore Elmhurst Retirement Home.
Eight students from the college have been working on Elmhurst’s glass door since last Wednesday.
The group of eight began working on the historical piece last Wednesday, commuting to Wheeling each day since to work on the detailed design.
Nicholas Jacobs, a student at Belmont, told WTRF that “[I] think it’s good to give back to the community because they’ve given us so much.”
The project is give and take – students get experience while giving back, and the home gets its entryway restored while giving the students real-life practice.
“The residents love the front door,” executive director of Elmhurst Jamie Crow told WTRF. “Just to be able to restore it back to its original heritage is what it’s all about.”
The historic glass door is set to be finished this Friday.
