The Belmont County Animal Shelter is having another promotion to clear the halls before the holidays.

They had one in September and October, and placed 200 animals.

Now this weekend, they’re doing it again.

Both Saturday and Sunday, you can stop in and apply to adopt a dog or cat at an amazingly low price and you can take it home before Christmas.

“We will be having the people in. They can fill out their applications. Then beginning on Monday we will start to look at the applications and approve those, and if necessary, do home visits. That’s something that we always do to make sure that the individual is a good home for our animals. And hopefully we can get 20 or 30 of them out of here for Christmas and that would be an awesome task for the Belmont County Animal Shelter,” said Belmont County Shelter Director Angela Hatfield.

In the past, it’s been said that Christmas is not the ideal time to adopt a pet, with all the chaos.

But shelter officials counsel prospective adopters, and they say it can actually work out very well, with people being off work, out of school, and home for the holidays.

And for the pets, they say a forever home beats a shelter any day.
