7News is working for you to watch the effect of the new Shell cracker in Beaver County on the projected plant in Dilles Bottom. Belmont County Commissioner Mark Thomas agreed that Shell’s decision to invest in a cracker reinforces that our area is a hot bed for new energy and shale.
Thomas said he had spoken with PTT engineers and they say there is enough ethane in the ground right here to be extracted for multiple plants. Thomas said in the gulf there are sometimes only 25 miles between plants, between Dilles Bottom and Beaver County there are over 80 miles.
“I know some people will think okay well there is only room for one. There isn’t. We are blessed with reserves, mineral reserves, ethane that will produce plastic if you will, that will be able to serve a multitude of plants, so I’m terribly excited about it,” said Mark Thomas.
Thomas said the commissioners are optimistic about the Dilles Bottom cracker they say PTT global is moving plans along quickly.
