A group of kids in Belmont County made a shocking discovery in the woods behind their homes over the weekend. Luckily, they were able to do the right thing to avoid a potentially dangerous situation.
Sheriff Dave Lucas said the incident happened on Sunday afternoon when three kids were playing behind the Pine Lake Trailer Court.
One of them spotted what they believed was a grenade and told an adult, who then called 911. The Franklin County Bomb Squad was called in to safely detonate the grenade.
“I got to praise the kids. They did the right thing, and that’s all I can suggest. Anybody out there, if you come across anything, do not touch it, do not move it, give us a call, let us examine, and we’ll get the experts in,” Sheriff Lucas said.
Lucas said the grenade was definitely old judging by the condition it was in. He added it was destroyed the safest way possible.
