A Belmont County man may have to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
On Monday, 39-year-old David Kerns admitted to one count of the rape of a child under the age of ten.
“In mid 2016, it was brought to our attention that he had been having sexual relations, sexual conduct with a family member, in a period of about eight years. It started in mid-2008 and ended in mid-2016,” said Belmont County Prosecutor Dan Fry.
Fry says Kerns could get life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years.
If he gets out of prison, Kerns would have to register as a tier three sex offender for the rest of his life.
Tier three is the most serious category.
Kerns will be sentenced by Judge Frank Fregiato in two weeks.
