Belmont County Man Jailed on Domestic Violence Charges After Incident That Sends Wife to Hospital

A Belmont County woman was rushed to the hospital, and her husband was taken to jail after an incident early Monday morning.

Police were called to the Pine Lake Trailer Court where they said Douglas Bruce, 42, was allegedly physically assaulting his wife and threatening to shoot her.

Sheriff Dave Lucas said the woman was able to get out, go to a neighbor’s house and call 911.

With the help of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, deputies surrounded the trailer and ordered him outside. He is facing charges of felonious assault.

Sheriff Dave Lucas offered his advice for people with tempers that get the best of them. “It’s human nature. There’s times when we don’t get along. My advice is have a plan, one of you leave the residence. You know get in your vehicle, or walk if you’ve been drinking or whatever, go to a friend, go to a neighbor’s house and cool down,” he said.

Bruce is being held with no bond in the Belmont County Jail until his arraignment. His wife was taken by the Lafferty E-Squad to a local hospital to be treated and released.
