The Belmont County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after dozens of cigarette cartons are stolen from a Belmont County market over the weekend.
This is the second time the East Richland Market was robbed. According to police, the first incident happened on Wednesday, Nov. 5 when thieves broke in and stole about 93 cartons of cigarettes.
According to Belmont County Sheriff, Dave Lucas, deputies responded to a call Sunday. When they arrived about 1:13 a.m. he said they found the glass had been broken with a concrete block, but that nothing was taken.
However, about 2:45 a.m. they received a second call that someone was inside the store. This time, the sheriff said the suspect or suspects took all of the Marlboro cigarettes. Lucas said targeting the same place twice in one night was pretty brash.
Authorities are investigating whether or not this recent robbery is linked to the robbery at the Hilltop Marathon on Friday. The sheriff said they are currently reviewing surveillance video.
Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (740) 695-7933.
