Benwood Honors Law Enforcement at City Council Meeting

One local community wanted to make sure their law enforcement felt honored and respected to protect and serve.

Benwood Police Chief Frank Longwell kicked off Law Enforcement Appreciation Week a few days early at Tuesday night’s City Council Meeting.

Police officers were given awards and new jackets for their hard work.

Chief Longwell says ceremonies like the one Tuesday night are important since 2014 was such a rough year nationally for law enforcement.

“We appreciate the job that the men and women do and the sacrifices that they go through to provide us with a safe environment and keep civilization functioning,” said Longwell.

Chief Longwell also congratulated his seven man department maintained a violent crime rate of only 1 percent in Benwood and says its due to his department logging around 100,000 miles on patrol.
