Each year, the Bethlehem Apostolic Temple gives away Thanksgiving baskets with all the trimmings for a holiday dinner to 300-to-500 needy families.
This year, they’re doing it again, but they’re holding a fund-raiser to help defray the costs, the week before.
On Sunday, November 15th at 6 p.m., the Harlem Ambassadors take the basketball court against a team made up of local celebrities at Wheeling Jesuit University.
Admission charge is $10 or under, plus you are asked to bring a can of food.
It’s a basketball game that’s more comedy than competition.
“It’s not NBA try-outs. We’re not going to be calling every foul and if you’ve ever seen the Harlem Globetrotters, they are of that flavor. And the only thing, one of the things that’s different about them is that they play people from the community,” said Rev. Darrell Cummings.
One of those people from the community is our own Jake Kaufmann. We’ll get to see him, not only covering sports, but playing.
Also we’ll see members of the Wheeling fire and police departments, sheriff’s deputies, state police officers, and local athlete CJ Goodwin.
Tickets in advance are $5 for students and senior citizens, $8 for adults.
