The former Department of Health & Human Resources Building in North Wheeling is about to become the new North Wheeling Youth Center.
The Bethlehem Apostolic Temple is buying the long-vacant structure, to create a day care, a restaurant, a fitness center, classrooms for college and community courses and even some affordable rent apartments.
It will also become the new site of the church’s well-known free food and school supply distributions.
“Our fellowship hall was just no longer big enough to handle the several hundreds, sometimes over a thousand that would come through our lines. With this building, we’ll be able to take them in, get them off the street, get them out of the cold, be able to feed them quicker, be able to do bigger things,” said Dr. Darrell Cummings of the Bethlehem Apostolic Temple
It will be a $500,000 investment in the community and will create 50 to 60 jobs. The four-story, 30,000 square foot building will require a complete remodel.
Donations can be mailed or dropped off in care of the North Wheeling Youth Center, to any Wesbanco in the area.
