Big Red Baseball Advances to Regional Final

The Steubenville baseball team waited until the last inning to do all their damage, scoring six runs in the top of the seventh, and eliminated Dover in the Ohio Division II Regional Semifinals at Zanesville’s Gant Stadium.

The Tornadoes knocked Big Red out in this game last year 7-1.

Trailing 1-0 in the seventh, Lucas Herrington nailed a solid single, followed by two perfectly placed bunt base-hits from Branden Jones and Gino Pierro, to load the bases. Travis Wolfe followed with a single through the right side scoring Herrington and Jones to give Big Red a 2-1 lead. Anthony Zorne delivered another two-run single, off  Dover starter Kyle Abel, bringing home Pierro and Wolfe to make it 4-1.

A bases-loaded walk, and a wild pitch made it 6-1, as Dover added a run in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch to complete the scoring.

Big Red will play the Big Walnut/Meigs winner on Friday afternoon for the regional championship.
