Bishop Bransfield Released 5th Pastoral Letter

Bishop Michael Bransfield released his fifth pastoral letter during a press conference Wednesday in the Friendly City.

The letter is titled “My Eyes Have Seen Your Salvation – Ministry with and among the Elderly in West Virginia.”

Bishop Bransfield decided to write this letter after traveling throughout the state and meeting many senior citizens who are devoted to their faith and families.

He said while they are depended on so much, they are often the most in need of charitable assistance, especially those living on their own.

Through the letter, Bransfield said his goal is to raise awareness of the important roles that elders play in Catholic parishes. He also challenges all those of good will to take care of the elders around them.

“Too many get isolated and too many get neglected and so in the family structure, the neighborhood and the community, there has to be this emphasis and this drive that the elderly are cared for and that they are not left alone without anyone caring or anyone helping,” Bransfield said.

Bransfield also focuses on the healthcare facilites and homes who provide care for the old.
