The Bethany College men’s basketball team dropped a 70-52 decision to Saint Vincent College in their first game in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play this season.

The game saw two early ties as Alan Harper (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) knotted the game at 3-3 with a three pointer in the early minutes. Andres Herrero (Guadalajara, Spain) also tied the game early as his layup with 17:37 to play pulled the game to 5-5.

From that point, however, the Bearcats opened a 15-3 run to take a 12-point advantage (20-8) with 11:10 remaining in the first frame. With Bethany trailing 27-14 with 8:50 to go, the Green & White would make their largest push of the game, going on a 6-0, including three points by Delonte’ Joyce (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) to cut the Saint Vincent lead to seven (27-20) with 4:43 left until half. Bethany would then go into the half trailing by 12, 38-26.

In the second half, the Bison would once again cut the Saint Vincent lead to as few as ten, but could not get the advantage under double digits as the Green & White fell for just the first time at home this season, 70-52.

In the game, junior Darrian Bruster (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) led the way for the Green & White as he came just one rebound shy of his first double-double. He led the way offensively with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Bruster also added nine boards.

The Bison were neck-and-neck with the Bearcats in the rebounding game as Saint Vincent held just a +1 advantage on the glass, 36-35. Along with Brusters nine, Herrero led the way with 10 boards, his second-straight double-digit rebound effort. Thanks to that, the Bison held the edge in second-chance points, 16-12.

The Green & White also held the advantage in bench scoring, 22-11. Along with Bruster’s 11, Calique Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) finished with a season-high six points.

The Bison will continue PAC action on Saturday, December 6, when the Green & White travel to Greenville, Pa. to take on Thiel College. The game is scheduled to follow the women’s contest which is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
