In Brooke County, authorities said they’re searching for a male, 17, that is behind a multi-jurisdictional crime spree.
Lieutenant Arthur with the Brooke County Sheriff’s Office told 7News, tips started coming in that the teen behind the spree was in the Washington Pike area outside of Wellsburg for allegedly stealing ATVs and other vehicles from the Green County, Pennsylvania and Marshall County West Virginia areas.
Deputies were able to arrest the teen without incident and that teen allegedly told authorities he would take them to an area where more stolen items could be recovered. On the way, they came across an elderly man on the side of the road who had just left the scene of a vehicle fire, on his property, and crossed water. His pant legs were wet and started freezing to his body. The deputy then took him to his house in the same car as the teen.
When they got to the elderly man’s house the deputy helped the man out of his car and made sure his doors were secure to not let the teen out, but did not check the window locks. The teen allegedly rolled down a window and escaped and has been on the run since.
Authorities said they received a tip that the teen contacted a family member saying he was fine, but he called from a blocked number and would not disclose his location. He did tell the family member he was still in handcuffs.
The Brooke County Sheriff’s Office is now working with the U.S. Marshal’s Service to locate the teen and they plan to release more information in the next week.
Remember, we can not release the suspect’s name because he is a juvenile.
