Brooke High School Students Lend Hands to Honor Vets

Students from Brooke High School lent a helping hand Wednesday morning, putting together a fence around the Follansbee Veteran’s Memorial.

The fence will help preserve the memorial, which honors U.S. veterans.

Veteran and Follansbee Chamber of Commerce President, Anthony Paesano says it’s important to preserve memorials such as this one in honor of those men and women.

“If you forget the past then it has an effect on the future, there’s no question about that,” he said. “All we are trying to do is memorialize those young men and women who gave their life for our country.”

Many of the students who participated were honored to help out.

“It feels awesome to be able to do stuff for the community and have somebody actually recognize that we do stuff for them,” said Gregory Yost, a senior.

The memorial is a partnership with the City of Follansbee, the Brooke County Chamber of Commerce and another organization. The chamber is in charge of the fountains upkeep.

City officials plan on adding a plaque to the memorial to honor locals who served and lost their lives for our country.
