Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson is stripping the General Lee of its Confederate flag. The Dukes of Hazzard fan made the announcement via Twitter on Thursday.

All men ARE created equal, I believe that so I will be painting the American flag over the roof of the General Lee #USA— bubba watson (@bubbawatson) July 2, 2015

Watson became the proud owner of the General Lee 01 in 2012 after spending $110,000 at auction to win the iconic orange 1969 Dodge Charger used by the Duke brothers in the popular 80s TV show “Dukes of Hazzard.”

In January Watson got the car autographed by Bo Duke himself, actor John Schneider.

Reaction to the golfer’s decision was mixed on social media with one twitter user writing that he was “Saddened to hear @bubbawatson is going to paint over the confederate flag on the general lee. You should sell it before you ruin it” while another wrote that it “Won’t be the General Lee anymore.”

After purchasing the car in 2012, Watson wrote a tweet that said “Sorry to all that are offended by my car “General Lee 1″ but car is #Awesome.”

Competing in this week’s Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia, Watson finished the first round tied for 27th after carding a 3-under 67 on Thursday.
