Firefighters in Wheeling evacuated a building on 11th Street after part of the building collapsed, Monday afternoon.
According to Assistant Fire Chief, Larry Murphy, the parapet of the building failed and everybody made it out of the building.
“We’ve been keeping our eye on this building for over a month now. Building inspection has been aware of it. It has been cordoned off. Luckily, it’s been cordoned off prior to this incident. he facade has been leaning forward, and today it finally fell, and came off the building,” said Murphy.
Murphy added 11th Street would have one lane shut down until a contractor comes in and completes repairs to the parapet.
